Prof. Amos P Bassi

Professor of Public Health & International Development Expert


Amos Paul Bassi is a Professor of Public Health Medicine and the immediate past Provost College of Medicine & Health Sciences, Bingham University, Nigeria, member of the Strategic Advisory Board of the West African Institute of Public Health and a global advocate for primary health care.

He has his multicountry experience includes being a part of major RMNCAH interventions in Africa and Asia close to three decades, as well as in health systems strengthening, HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, nutrition, and water, sanitation and hygiene related programmes. Among some of key international organisations worked for are WHO, UNICEF, USAID, DFID, European Union and the World Bank, as well as nonprofits like John Snow Inc. He is notable for his strong networks globally and locally and has been active member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Association of Public Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN), Epidemiological Society of Nigeria (EpiSON), and International Epidemiological Association (IEA). 

A Board-certified physician, Professor Bassi is Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Public Health (FMCPH), an examiner to many Schools of Public Health in Nigeria and very focused on International and Child Health Survival, having been part of the Child Health Task Force. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Academy of Public Health of the West African Institute of Public Health (FAPH).
